Only a few miles downriver (North) of Niagara Falls there is the famous whirlpool. There is a cable car ride one can take across it but few people are aware that you can actually go down into the gorge to the little beach. It is a very steep path and my leg muscles didn't recover for a couple of days, but it is a very lovely spot. It isn't quite as deserted as this looks, there were probably twenty other people down there that day, several of them fishing
